Weekly recap

Because today was a holiday and I didn't have to work I keep thinking it is Sunday, which is really confusing me. The last week I feel I may have turned a corner, I feel like the light switch is back on.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday- ate fairly well but definitely needs improvement. relied to heavily on some food crutches, ie: peanut butter and rice cakes. Weighed in and down a pound.

Thursday- back on track food wise, but I need to stop buying rice cakes. oh and marshmallow bananas I love those candies so yummy yet so evil.

Friday- day off of work, had lunch out with my mom, though I was afraid of eating out, I didn't do too badly and still came within my calorie range for the day. Hit the gym and the pool.

Saturday- work but went for a nice walk in the evening.

Sunday - Hit the gym and had a great workout. Attended a virtual wedding party. We all hung out at a pub and watched a friend get married live over a webcam. I did eat out again but still maintained my calorie range. I wore one of my new shirts, and I felt pretty good, thought I looked okay until my friend posted the photos on face book, but I may be over critical of myself.

Monday- Happy Victoria day. Went on my first long walk with my dog, just over an hour and managed to make it home just in time before the rain hit. The trail was still a bit too soggy so during that part I ended up walking off trail a bit and along fallen trees. I really need to work on my balance, I was convinced I was going to fall and break something, or at least have to walk all the way home covered in mud. Thankfully neither occurred. Came way under calorie range today, weird it doesn't feel like I ate any less.

I started tracking everything again and it really has helped me feel more in control, but I am feeling that way in my non weight loss life. Circumstances at work have changed where a very stressful element has been removed, making my daily life better. Oh and water, I have jumped back on the water bandwagon.

First weigh in of the New Year

Down 3 lbs. Back down to my pre holiday weight of 330, almost to the 50 lb mark.

My Best friend and her entire family are joining up to a gym for their new years resolution for getting into shape. My friend is a big negotiator and is haggling with the gym regarding fees etc. She called me up tonight and asked if I wanted in and the price she has given is great so I said yes. But I don't know if I am ready to face a gym yet. For one thing, at least I will be in good company, so I won't be facing it alone, but I don't know if I am up to handling classes etc, and I am still so self conscious being seen exercising in public. Another bonus is my friend and I would be spending more time with each other, also a big new years resolution with us. We tend to let our busy lives take over and we haven't gotten to see each other too much even though she has moved back to the city.

I am sure there will be people who stare, but I guess at this time of the year there will be lots of unfit people who will be at the gym. I just need to get over my self consciousness.

All quiet on the fat front

I realized that I haven't posted in several days, and nothing really of interest. And since for me being quiet is a bad sign I figured I better write something.

I am basically in Christmas survival mode. The gift baskets have begun to flow into work, and while I have indulged, I have kept in under control and in perspective (and in caloric range!). This week I have 2 Christmas parties i am attending, one is at a buffet, and one is pot luck. I am so bringing veggies to the pot luck.

I went swimming on Thursday as promised, but missed out on Saturday again due to work. I go again on Tuesday. Due to the cold weather and busy schedule my activity level has dropped. No more 2 hour walks on Sunday, my dog is not built for cold weather and surprisingly neither am I (despite the insulating layers). I am missing the activity though and am trying to figure out what to do to compensate. To bad shopping isn't cardio.

Cut the cord, the cable cord that is

I have been completely without cable for 2 1/2 months now. And I have to say, I love it. Now I still love to watch television programs but I am pretty much streaming them all online now. Most of the TV stations have websites where they stream their shows anyways, I may have to wait a few days until they are posted but I can handle that. I am really enjoying not having to be tethered at home during a certain time. I used to never leave the house Thursday nights from 9 pm on, the whole Greys Anatomy then ER combo, in fact people dared not phone me during that time (if they did it was a very unresponsive conversation; "uh huh, yeah, okay see you then" sort of thing). Now I head to the pool that night and watch Grey's on the weekend. Actually almost all my TV catching up is now done on the weekends freeing my weekday evenings up for other activities.

It also has really reduced my channel surfing habit, where I ended up just watching whatever was on or re watching something I have already seen ten times. My programme watching is much more focused now. The only thing I am worried about is how much bandwidth I am using these days. I will really have to check that out.

Overall I am probably watching less TV now. I have replaced that time with more physical activities but not all, still working on it, and the big bad Internet pulls me in a lot.

Missing out

I am a pretty recreational active person despite my obesity, I go walking, swimming, go out to social events, movies. On a whole my policy is to not stop myself from doing something because I am fat, even though I am naturally a shy person and sometimes have to force myself. But there are always those instances where I just know that I can't join in on this activity, or do something physical, it just isn't going to work.

Of course it's always something I would love to do, or that may be difficult to excuse myself from without getting into the reasons why. I just know that I do have physical limitations and I have caused them myself.

I found out today that some of my co-workers are organizing a trail ride for all interested parties. I love horses! I love riding! I haven't been on a horse in more then 10 years because I don't want to kill the horse! I also always had an issue with mounting since an injury to my knee. So not only am I going to miss out on an activity I would love, I will miss out on the socialization with my co-workers in a non work setting.

According to this article on the weight watchers site:

http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=59481&sc=3039

There is no set upper limit for the rider's weight a horse can carry, but a lot of riding schools will place weight limits so their horses are not injured or overworked. But better to be safe then sorry, I would never want to inadvertently injure an animal, its not like when you sit on a chair and break it, that's embarrassing. Imagine breaking a horse, I don't think I could show my face at work again, or outside my door for that matter. Most riding schools seem to range from about 220-250 lbs as the maximum weight allowed. So lets say I lose 10 lbs a month (wishing and hoping) then maybe the earliest I could start horseback riding would be a year from now ( I totally should not have figured that out! that is more depressing then encouraging!)

I am trying not to dwell on all the things miss due to my body, but to currently enjoy the things I can do. Another good reason to continue on....
